About College
Founded in 1808, the Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital is a government-run Ayurvedic (traditional Indian medicine) college and hospital located in Mysore. It is regarded as the oldest university in India that teaches ayurvedic medicine.
The college offers post-graduate courses leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in the subjects of Ayurveda Siddhantha or Ayurveda Kayachikitsa, as well as undergraduate studies leading to a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS). 2018 saw the opening of two new PG departments at Swasthhavritta and Panchakarama.
The college is associated with Bangalore’s Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, a unitary university founded in 1996 by the Karnataka government to oversee and advance higher education in the health sciences across the state. Additionally, it complies with all guidelines established by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), New Delhi, for the teaching of traditional medicine.
There is a 175-bed hospital connected to the college. The public can receive free Ayurvedic treatment for conditions like paralysis, skin conditions, hepatitis, asthma, joint discomfort, and jaundice. In addition to Ayurvedic treatment, there are distinct sections for yoga, homeopathy, and unani medicine.
