About College
This esteemed establishment offers Ayurvedic education in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Sri Burgula Ramakrishna Rao, the first chief minister of Hyderabad, is honored by the college’s name. Pioneering Vaidyas such as Sri. Shankar Prasad Hargovind, Sri. M. Ranga Charya, Sri. D. Ramana Raju, Sri. Janardhan, Sri. Ramanujam Swamy, Sri. Radha Kishanji, and Sri. Narsing Prasad Markandeya and Sri Ramadas founded the institution in 1935 as a private college in Hyderabad State.In Sultan Bazar, the College was founded in 1935 by PRINCE OF BERAR. His Excellency and Highness Nizam of Hyderabad established the Government Ayurvedic College in 1941 by issuing a “FIRMAN,” and Pandit Radhakrishnaji was named as the institution’s first principal.
First, a four-year program in Hindi was available. A few topics related to modern medicine were introduced in 1951. Telugu Medium was first launched in 1956. The House Surgency was first implemented in 1960. This institute was connected to Osmania University in Hyderabad in 1970. This college began using the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) New Delhi syllabus in 1973. This institution was affiliated with Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada in 1986. Its three semesters of one and a half years each included one year of House Surgency of BAMS courses in accordance with CCIM requirements.
With ten scholars in the Kayachikitsa specialization, the Post-Graduate Course was launched in 1973. Shalya, Shalakya, and Prasuti Tantra were established in 1981 with ten scholars. The Dravyaguna PG Course was started in 1992–1993 with six scholars, and in 2008–09, two PG Specialties—Panchakarma and Samhitha—were established under the Central Sponsored Scheme in a newly built building on the college grounds with six scholars each.
This college moved to its own building in 1984. It was built on 4.6 acres of ground, including hospital buildings and hostels for boys and girls, at Erragadda, Opp. E.S.I. Hospital Lane, Hyderabad. Additionally, in 1994, the government of Andhra Pradesh granted 57.98 acres of land at Himayath sagar, Rajender nagar Mandal, Ranga Reddy Dist. to the honorable chief minister, the late Srikotlavijaya Bhaska Reddy Garu, for the sole cultivation of medicinal plants at this college. The state medicinal plant board is currently in charge of this herbal garden’s development.
A 1.5-acre herbal garden and nursery were established on college property with the purpose of identifying and demonstrating plants to students, as well as providing free nursery plants to the general public.
In the year 2000, the college building’s “Dhanwantari Sabhamantapam” auditorium—which has 300 seats and is outfitted with all the newest amenities—was built and opened for use as a venue for conferences and other events. Students in both UG and PG programs have regular academic activities in a small seminar hall called “Atreyasabhamantapam.”
