With a glorious 56-year history, Anantha Laxmi Govt. Ayurvedic College was founded on November 19, 1956, under private management in a building donated by Smt. Anantha Laxmi, W/o. Late Akarapu Narsingam, Warangal. With a 30-person capacity, the college was able to enroll students thanks to the timely efforts of Ayurvedic enthusiasts like P.V. Narsimha Rao, Hon’ble Minister for External Affairs, Government of India. And on February 11, 1968, this institution was affiliated with Osmania University in Hyderabad. The college was fully absorbed and taken over by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for further management training, which is affiliated with Kakatiya University in Warangal. In 1987, the college’s affiliation was transferred to Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada. In 1978, admission to the B.A.M.S. program was made possible through the EAMCET.
Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences awards the BAMS degree following a successful four and a half-year academic program followed by a one-year internship. For UG, the annual intake capacity is thirty, and starting in 2007, it is fifty. This college has 14 departments, a library, a hostel for boys and girls, and a herb garden with 460 medicinal plants spread over 5.19 acres of government land. It also has an attached 100-bed teaching hospital called Old Grain Market, which is located on two acres of land in the center of the city, close to the train and bus stations and equipped with OP&IP units to provide the public with better health care through the use of the Ayurvedic medical system.
