In 1949, the Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya Institution was founded. It was formerly known as the “Gopabandhu Ayurvedic Institute,” then as the “Gopabandhu Ayurveda Vidyapitha, Puri,” and once again in 1971 as the “GOPABANDHU AYURVEDA MAHAVIDYALAYA, PURI.” With an annual intake of 55 seats, the college is associated with Utkal University Vani Vihar, Bhubaneshwar, which is situated in Odisha. This institute, which offers instruction to U.G. and P.G. students, has been elevated to the status of Model Institute of Govt. of India for its higher order academic activities. Additionally, this institution has been designated by Utkal University as the Nodal Center for Ph.D. (Ay.) study from 2010 to 2011.

Adjacent to the department is a cultivated herbal garden spanning around two acres, featuring 270 species of medicinal plants, of which fifteen fall under the uncommon category.
