About College
The sole Ayurvedic institute in southern Odisha is Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma Ayurveda College & Hospital in Ankushpur. One of the state’s government-run ayurvedic colleges, it was established on August 15, 1978, under private administration with the enthusiastic assistance of the late Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma, a former member of parliament (Lok Shabha). Although the college was once housed in Chaturbhuja Dharmasala in Berhampur, it moved to its own facility in Ankuspur in 1980.
The college offers instruction and hands-on training to undergraduate students. The Odisha government established a state screening committee that selects and admits thirty students annually. Fifteen paramedical staff members and fifteen passionate and hardworking teachers ran the college. Currently, the college has fourteen departments, thirty-five teaching faculty members, and forty non-teaching staff members. About 180 students are enrolled at the college.
Library:The college has a good & well equipped library containing books, journals and periodical. A well maintained Herbal Garden is present in the campus spreading over about five acres of land containing valuable species of plants for practical demonstration of students. The college has a medicine manufacturing unit(Pharmacy) attached to the dept. of Rasasastra, meant for practical training of the students and supplying medicines for the OPD and IPD patients.
Hospital:The hospital which is situated in the campus consist of Outdoor and Indoor block. Apart from the general treatment in the hospital specialized Panchakarma Chikitsa has attracted patients from far distance places from the state , for which hospital has gained a good name. Good number of surgical patients especially ano- rectal diseases has been treated and cured by application of Ksharasutra therapy.
