The Central Council of Indian Medicine recognizes J. B. Roy State Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, as the nation’s oldest Ayurvedic academic institution. It was founded on February 10, 1916, thanks to the vision, commitment, and hard work of Kaviraj Jamini Bhusan Roy. The father of the country, Mahatma Gandhi, placed the institute’s foundation stone. The Department of Health and FW, Government of West Bengal, directly oversees the institute, which holds the esteemed title of “State Model College of Ayurveda” thanks to the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Since its founding, the institute has promoted the legacy of traditional Indian medical practice while incorporating contemporary scientific advancements through research, education, and therapies.
A single undergraduate program, the Ayurvedacharya B.A.M.S. (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicines & Surgery, 4 and a half years + 1 year Rotatory Internship), is being offered by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. This course is only admitted through the qualifying NEET, which is being administered by the CBSE as of the current year (Session 2018-2019).Under the Paschim Banga Ayurveda Parishad, there is a one-year certificate program for panchakarma assistants. Entry method determined by high school exam scores.
